Details and Information
If you take a stroll through the delightful surroundings of Upton Country Park, and make a little detour to the Gallery above the Tea rooms, you will discover a vibrant exhibition of striking paintings by two distinctly different Dorset artists.
Sarah McDonald is known for her lively acrylic abstracts and collages, while Pamela Marshall’s painting are representational, full of light and colour and often painted en plein air. All work shown is for sale, including a selection of browser pieces and greetings cards, so there’s something for every pocket.
Sarah is a full time abstract painter, living and working in Southbourne, Dorset. She is inspired by colour and the abstract elements of mark making. Her primary concern is in the process of using paint and mixed media and how these interact and respond to each other within the substrate.
She says “The work develops during the act of painting and each mark is an intuitive response to what is already on the surface. The formal principles of design, composition, colour value and contrast all play key roles within the work, and these inform the intuitive mark making process, often on a subconscious level. The work is complete when the conversation between myself and the work is exhausted”. Sarah has a degree in Fine Art from the Arts University Bournemouth.
Pam Marshall attended St Martins School of Art gaining a degree, after which she worked in fashion for many years, both here and in South Africa. In time she decided to return to her first love, drawing and painting, and has sought to develop her skills and has exhibited her work successfully. She has worked in watercolour, pastel and acrylic, but now focuses almost entirely on oil painting. She is a Trustee and Treasurer for the charity Poole and East Dorset Art Society.
